"How much does it cost?" is the first question every farmer and land owner asks. The answer in Tamil Nadu in 2026 isn't a single number — it depends on soil, depth, diameter, and whether you need ring lining. Here are real numbers from our last 100 projects, broken down so you can plan a realistic budget.
Cost per foot by soil type (excavation only)

Ring lining cost (when needed)
In loose, sandy or delta soil, the well wall needs reinforcement with concrete rings. Rings come in 3-8 ft diameter. Approximate 2026 rates:
- 3-4 ft diameter ring: ₹1,200-1,800 per ring including installation
- 5-6 ft diameter ring: ₹2,000-2,800 per ring
- 7-8 ft diameter ring: ₹3,000-3,500 per ring

What government subsidy can save you

For a typical 6-foot diameter, 50-foot deep open well in soft soil, the cost is around ₹17,500-22,500 (₹350-450/ft). For the same well in rocky terrain, expect ₹35,000-50,000+ (₹700-1,000/ft). Add ring lining (₹1,200-3,500 per ring) where soil demands it. Free site visit to confirm.
02Why does the cost per foot vary so much?
The biggest cost driver is soil type. Soft loam and clay are cheap. Hard rock requires rock compressors and takes 4-6x longer per foot. Within Tamil Nadu, even neighbouring villages can have completely different soil profiles, so a real site visit matters more than a published rate sheet.
03Are there any hidden charges?
We commit to a transparent written quote at the start. The price covers excavation, dewatering during construction, debris removal, and basic finishing. Ring lining is quoted separately based on number of rings needed, since this depends on soil. Government subsidy paperwork (where applicable) is free.
04Is there government subsidy that reduces my cost?
Yes — open wells and farm ponds qualify for PMKSY (Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana), MGNREGA in many districts, and TN state agricultural department schemes.
